7 a side teams

The days of children under age 11 playing on adult sized pitches in goals 8 yards wide by 8 feet high are, thankfully, long gone. Due to initiatives introduced by the Football Association, opportunities now exist for young children to play in organised football from the age of 7 years, on a non-competitive basis. The format is known as small sided football and is usually based on 7 a side. Professional football clubs also use the small sided format, although these are generally based on 8 a side from the age of U9 to U10.

Monkton Juniors F.C. have teams in all age groups within the South Tyneside Youth League and has a long association with the League Organiser, Alan Millward. Alan was one of the founders of the Club before moving onto his current role as the Principal of the South Tyneside Football Trust.
